PEACE
AND BLESSINGS, SISTER JENNIFER!
In
a simple ceremony on September 6, 2008 Sister Jennifer Lang, RSM, our new
Faith Formation Director, is professing her first vows (three years) at Our
Lady of Mercy Chapel in Brighton. This step follows the novitiate stage of
religious life leading ultimately to final vows as a member of the Sisters
of Mercy. We offer Sister Jennifer our prayerful best wishes, we welcome her
to ministry in our community as Faith Formation Director, and with all the
church we pray for vocations.
FEAST
OF OUR LADY OF CHARITY
(Senora de la Caridad
del
Cobre), Patroness of Cuba, will be celebrated at Holy Apostles with a
special Mass, Monday, September 8,
7:00pm.
Refreshments will follow in the
Urban
Center.
The patronal feast days of Mary celebrated in Latin America are celebrated
by the Latino community in
Rochester
in different parishes each year. We welcome everyone to this special evening
planned by the Spanish Apostolate.
FINANCE COUNCIL AND ANNUAL YEAR END REPORT -
We no longer have separate parishes and separate
Finance Committees and are now establishing one Finance Council for our
community reflecting diocesan guidelines. Its first meeting also will be the
traditional “annual meeting” at which the year end reports (July
1, 2007 -
June 30, 2008)
for both HA and HF will be presented. A proposed budget also will be
presented. This meeting will be held on Thursday, September 11, 7:00pm,
Urban Center. All parishioners are welcome.
PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR SEMINARIANS -
Brian, Michael, Zachary, Matthew, Peter, David, and Greg - as they begin
another year studying and discerning a call to serve as priests for the
Diocese of Rochester. Let us also pray that each of us discovers the
vocation God calls us to. Office of Vocation Awareness 585-461-2890/

EVER
THINK ABOUT BECOMING A CATHOLIC?
God
speaks to our hearts in so many ways. Have you ever felt drawn to learning
about what Catholics believe and practice with the possibility of you,
yourself becoming a Catholic? Do you know someone who has not received their
sacraments? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and the Rite of
Christian Initiation of Children offers those who have never been
baptized...or who were baptized Catholic but never received First Eucharist
and Confirmation just that opportunity. The next session starts in
September. To find out more, call Sister Jennifer at the
Urban
Center (458-6918)
TRANSITION COMMITTEE -
Earlier this
month the promised Transition Committee was formed to address matters
concerning forming one community from our many members. The group will
consider which artifacts to bring from Holy Family and suggest any changes
in Holy Apostles. They will devise a process to survey parishioners on the
question of a new name. They will help us build up our ministries,
activities and committees.
There are
around 14 members with family roots touching St. Anthony, St. Francis, Holy
Family and Holy Apostles. Please pray for our community’s health and our
Transition Committee’s ease in their conversations. Fr. Tomasso
MISSION
COLLECTION THANK YOU -
Recently we
received two notes acknowledging our gift of $913.22 (about $250.00 increase
over previous years!) for the Catholic Network of Lay Volunteer Services.
Besides the diocesan note from Father Robert Bradler, Mr. Shane Yost wrote
“It was a great privilege to share with you about lay volunteer service and
my own story. It meant a lot to me to speak in Rochester where I have so
many personal and family connections. Thank you so much for welcoming me and
everyone’s great kindness.” Let us continue to care and pray for all
missionaries.
HOLY APOSTLES
SCHOOL
LEASE -
The
Head Start program directed by ABC notified us in June that they would be
leaving our building in July. We are blessed that, at the same time, the
Rochester City School District began conversations with us to lease
Holy
Apostles School for the coming year and likely thereafter. Thus the building
will be occupied immediately for a new program and conversations are
anticipated for a multi-year lease. Our community, similar to recent years,
will be able to use the school hall several times per year.(Holy Family
building also was shown but deemed too big for the district’s need.)
At
this writing we continue to work with a realtor who deals in large
properties toward the sale of the Holy Family campus. There have been
showings to interested parties in recent weeks who then consult with their
congregations or governing bodies. Please pray that this sincere interest
develops into serious offers.
REMEMBERING YOUR PARISH
One of
the
ways that our Parish has been financially helped is by people remembering
the Parish
in their Will. We would ask you to consider this way to help your parish.
It is best that the bequest be designated for the Parish funds in general.
If you would like to make a particular request it would be best to discuss
that with Father Tomasso, so that the right terminology would be used.
Leaving money to the Parish is a great help for our future.

STEWARDSHIP TODAY
-
Everyone
has a different capacity to give. But we shouldn’t concern ourselves with
comparing our stewardship effort to those of others. Instead, measure your gifts by the sacrifice you are making. Stewardship…...Live
it!
